A quick follow up on my previous post. I found out that apparently Internet Explorer 7 has support for
OpenSearch, while Safari 2 lacks such a feature. I read around however that Safari 3 in Leopard will
support it too. Opera 9 also has support. That is a step forward, since people will no longer have
to go through the extra clicks of opening up NPCGLib. It would be great if publishers would provide
such a feature for their publications, so researchers wouldn't have to go through the ad-clutter of
many of these sites. Really, if a researcher wants to read news or ads they will visit the website, there
is no need to hide the digital libraries behind all this irrelevant information. Some people just don't
get it; it is a waste of time and resources and hinders productivity.

I have added an OpenSearch plugin for the NPCGLib, which basically allows you to
search NPCGLib right from your browser! To do this just pull down your
web search engines' list, as shown on the left picture below, then click on
Add "NPCGLib Search Engine" and it will be added to your search engines,
as shown in the right picture.

Note that this works on all programs that support the OpenSearch format. These include FireFox and Mozilla, but I think that IE does not support OpenSearch. Currently, the plugin searches by title and this is unlikely to change. Those looking for technical information on how the OpenSearch plugin can be created, take a look at how the Mozilla people support it, here.

Happy new year all. I did a little bit of cleanup and added some references. I am kind of busy lately,
therefore I may be slightly slow on updates.
