11 December 2005

I started maintaining a list of those email addresses that the spammers use; for sure the attacks are automated, but sticking them up here surely helps for their accounts to be flooded with spam too. Maybe when I make 100 of them I should email AOL .. oh wait, even better, maybe I should just write a little script to automatically send their providers a report with the attack and the logs attached :))

Are patents any good? It is interesting to see which ideas companies will try to get an inventor's piece of paper. Sometimes these patents are ridiculously obvious or already publically available research. Nevertheless, it gives some insight of which technologies may be used in the future and which directions they are heading to. For instance take a look at these:

I don't think it makes much sense to try and monitor them, but I made a little comment to give a pointer to the curious ones.

19 November 2005

I added Digital Object Identifier (DOI) System support. Unfortunately, it will take some time until I have updated the respective references with the correct DOIs on the system.

15 November 2005

Just for my record really, here are two more of these contact form attacks, trying to report their findings to onemoreaddress@hotpop.com and battsl1005@aol.com.

25 October 2005

I did some reference additions as I have been looking through what's new and found/fixed a small bug on the RSS feed. Also I added some extra conversion characters to the bibtex, but still there are more to handle, whenever I find time.

26 September 2005

There was someone trying to misuse the contact form. Quite nicely done, behind an anonymous proxy and everything. Only he should have not bcc'ed a copy of the injected email to what I believe is he himself at the email address Homerragtime@aol.com. Next step is banning the proxy ips on the firewall level more proactively :)

I got some free time to look into this again. It appears that this is an automated bot. As far as I can tell, the email address noted above, is used to receive all the emails sent from vulnerable websites. My guess is that then all those emails are used to identify servers that can be used to send out spam without the owners noticing. Well since the problem seems to be rectified over here, I will keep an eye to see if they will come back to use it, just so I ban their ips for good :) Read here for a more thorough explanation and some tips to fix it.

21 September 2005

I have been correcting a lot of reference metadata. Actually there are more mistakes than I was thinking. Thankfully I started changing some of the internal structures and it will soon be possible to do some nice stuff. I still have to fix the ugly search engine. There have been lately a lot of, what I believe to be, spambots visiting the system, but I doubt they will find anything useful here.

19 July 2005

I singed up on SpreadFirefox in hope that some of those using proprietary broken browsers (cough IE cough) will make the switch. Firefox is a free and open source web browser, so why not support it? Bare in mind that there is no money or anything involved with this promotion, it is an effort based on volunteers.

30 June 2005

Revamped the RSS feed output, should work much better now. The publication date of the RSS feed is set to the time I post the entry and it does not reflect the actual publication date of the paper. However, now the actual authors are being posted over the feed. I use Thunderbird to view this feed and seems ok to me, so far.

12 June 2005

More bug fixing. Some administrative forms been reviewed and minor things repaired. Still some to fix. The search engine needs a good recoding, but until then you can use Google's search engine. Best bet is to use simple words on the local search engine, e.g. "stippling" or "cartoon". There are no advanced features such as "stipple+rendering". The RSS has been changed so that it does not post RSS changes when I modify entries, but only when they are added for the first time.

8 June 2005

It has been a while since I added any entries. I will try to catch up with the current conferences and retrieve the references. I have also done a bit of profiling for the engine and I plan to get some bugfixes done and add some new (mainly internal) features.

10 February 2005

I nailed a nasty bug, that did not allow visitors to download the free papers. While I am at it, if you see one of your papers and you would not mind if it's directly downloadable from this server then drop me a line! This service is totally "fee & ad-free", it is just one of my tools and I don't mind other people using it. Also send me any suggestions that you think would make your experience around here better.

6 January 2005

I have added some papers from The Journal of the Society for Art and Science. It is only recently that some of their papers are published in English and that's a pitty, because I see some nice images on the older ones that I cannot read ... my Japanese is a little rusty, but I'm working on it!

5 January 2005

I decided to add an RSS Feed of the latest added entries, so that you don't even have to visit the library to find whether I added things. Just subscribe to the rss feed and get the latest references almost instantly as I add them. You will need a client to subscribe to the feed, Firefox and Thunderbird support it pretty well, but there are a lot of other clients you can use (IE does not support rss feeds!).
