Abstract:
Chinese ink painting stresses the notion of "implicit meaning" in which painters use a minimum amount of strokes to express their deepest feelings. Landscapes are one of the most important themes in Chinese painting. Trees are the essential painting objects In Chinese landscape painting. This paper proposes a set of methods to automatically draw trees in Chinese ink painting from 3D polygonal models. A given 3D tree model is drawn by outline rendering and texture generation, from information of the shape, shade and orientation of model's surface. Many reference maps are constructed to analyze the information; create brush strokes for the outline and bark texture. These methods can draw different bark textures by establishing a procedure for defining the texture patterns. Finally, this paper presents results of our method, using the still images and animations.
